In the light of the coming 5th Danube Participation Day, we would like to invite you to the SEMINAR on Expanding Civic Space in the Danube Region on 15 and 16 October in Sofia.
The event is organised by the Citizen Participation Forum, Bulgaria, the Danube Civil Society Forum, and Foster Europe Foundation, with the support of CEI. The seminar is held in coordination with the 5th Danube Participation Day in Sofia. It will involve about 30 participants from the Danube and the Western Balkan region (CEI outreach), who will have the chance to discuss challenges to civil society deriving from the phenomenon of shrinking civic space and to identify common strategies to meet these challenges.
The discussions will be in three main aspects (Working groups):
- Media landscape: Limitations to democracy
- Digital Transformation: New Environment, New Booby Traps
- Outreach: Limiting the Environment for Participation
While the challenges mainly occur at the national level and below, we believe the counterstrategies should include the supra-national level (MRS in the Danube and the Adriatic-Ionian area) and the EU. The seminar should pave the way for concrete cooperation among civil society in the regions.
In the afternoon of the second day the organizers will offer a “Donors’ Conference”, a dialogue with financing institutions on future funding opportunities for CSOs’ initiatives and citizen participation. The conclusions and ideas coming out will be presented at the 5th Danube Participation Day on 17 October.
We would kindly invite you to participate and contribute to a broad strategy for “Expanding the Civic space” Europe wide and extending the outreach of CSO´s values and actions.
Please note that those who are already registered for the 5th Danube Participation Day take priority in registering for the Seminar.
